Shamus here. I think we all know that there is a whole lot of crap out there, when it comes to finding tattoo designs. Pour over the “free” tattoo sites and you will see what I mean. It is the same design over and over.

Do you really want a “free” tattoo design? Maybe. If you look through all of the free tattoo sites, you might be able to find a tattoo design that will suit your needs. There are SO many free tattoo design sites out there, that you could literally spend weeks searching through them all.

Generally, the free sites have tens of thousands of designs. Most are not organized in categories, and most do not give you the flexibility to change the scale of the design. And, I guarantee you will find the same cookie cutter designs on site after site. But if you are truly patient and willing to wade through all the designs you may find what you are looking for.

 When you begin your search for the best tattoo design, there are a few important things to keep in mind.

You want to find the best design that comes the closest to what you had in your head. You are going to spend a boatload of money on the actual tattoo, so you don’t want to have any regrets later. After all, it is permanent.

So how do you find the best tattoo design? If you are looking for a simple basic design, you will probably have a pretty good chance of finding it on the “Free Tattoo” sites. If you are thinking of an intricate tribal tattoo, a Maori design, an awesome shoulder tattoo, a large back piece or something that is truly unique, you should really take your time and do all your research. So yes, you can get a free tattoo design but does it really make sense? You want something unique, wonderfully designed, something you will love to live with the rest of your life. You, for sure, do not want that big shoulder tattoo design to looks like it came out of a gumball machine.

 Please pay special attention here.  Give careful consideration to tattooing your significant others NAME on yourself. Sure, they are really important to you today, but what about tomorrow, next month, 15 years from now. Think long and hard. Maybe it is a better idea to have some kind of a “symbol” tattoo that is important to both of you.  A name is very personal and Cover up work or removal is very expensive.  The name thing  did not work out so well for Angelina Jolie did it?

“My Tattoo Is Awful!! Now What? Help!!”  So You Got Yourself Talked Into Getting A Tattoo One Very Late, Very Drunk Night. You thought it was a good idea at the time. It hardly hurt at all. (No Kidding!) Your friends all helped you pick out the design and who knew that in the light of day, (the next day) you not only had a giant headache, but you had Winnie-The-Pooh and Tigger dancing around your ankle. Cute if you are a very small woman with a passion for small furry creatures, but not so nice if you are a 230 rough neck auto mechanic. Now what?

Well, all kidding aside, a reputable tattoo shop will NOT tattoo you if you are drunk. Which probably saved alot of people from making some very bad mistakes. Sometimes, the passion you had for the tattoo you got at 18 doesn’t really hold up when you are 25.  Maybe it is something or someone you are no longer associated with. Maybe it is in a place on your body that isn’t really fitting in with your new job in the corporate world. Or it could be as simple as getting tired of the design, and wanting a new one.

What do you do now? There are a few different ways to fade or remove a tattoo. None are foolproof but all have come a long way with the help of technology. Lasers are the most common method of tattoo removal. They work by targeting the ink with lasar pulses that break up the ink into tiny fragments. These fragments are then absorbed into your body and cleared away by your immune system. This is a process that could take many many treatments depending on the size of the tattoo and the depth of color.  Some scarring will occur with this treatment. Find someone who specializes in lasar tattoo removal. Lasar removal is also expensive. Many treatments running between $250 and $850 per session. Most simple tattoos require five to six treatments. A large tribal or back piece could cost thousands to remove. Results are not guarenteed and vary by person. Also, IT HURTS. Some people cover themselves in lidocaine and wrap the area in plastic wrap a few hours before treatment to cut down on the pain.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy, is the latest and greatest treatment in the removal of unwanted tattoos. It uses high intensity Light and gel to remove the tattoo. It is said to be less painful than Lasar treatment  . Instead of laser light, it uses high intensity light in pretty much the same manner. A gel is applied to the skin and then the wand is used to emit pulses of light onto the area being treated. This treatment is still pretty new so you guessed it, the price in still very high. Some treatment centers are charging by the pulse. Could get very expensive very fast.  

There are other surgical methods to remove tattoos, but these are very damaging to the skin and could cause extreme scarring. Surgical excising of the area should only be considered as a last resort.

Fading creams have been around for awhile, and like the surgical methods, they have gotten better over time. Some of the creams will not totally remove the tattoo, but will fade it over time. The Fading Creams are not cheap but compared to the cost of lasar removal, they are  a bargain. This is a pretty good method if you are going to cover up the tattoo with a fresh one.
